Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a senior Congress leader, passed away at the age of 79.

He had been undergoing treatment for cancer and breathed his last at a Bengaluru hospital on July 18.

Oommen Chandy served as Chief Minister of Kerala twice, from 2004 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016.

Throughout his political career, he held several important positions, including Labor Minister and Finance Minister.

He actively participated in the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Youth Congress during his college days.

Chandy was known for his dedication to public service and was immensely popular with the masses.

His 'Mass Contact' program addressed public grievances and showcased his concern for the people's welfare.

Oommen Chandy was a respected figure within the Congress party and played a crucial role in the UDF.

He leaves behind his wife, Mariamma Oommen, and their children, Achu Oommen, Maria Oommen, and Chandy Oommen.
