New York City: Recently, a federal judge in Los Angeles told Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minaj’s husband, that he must remain at home because he allegedly broke the terms of his three-year sentence. The court order that Rolling Stone got shows that Petty was caught on video making threats against a certain person. According to a tweet by legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff, that person is Offset, Cardi B’s husband.
The document from Wednesday shows that Petty’s probation officer was worried about his behavior because he was “making threatening remarks towards a specific individual while in the company of someone with a criminal record.” To fix this, the probation officer suggested that Petty join the location tracking program. This would allow for closer tracking, limit his movements, and serve as a punishment for not following the rules. The goal was to get Petty to think about his place in the community.
Petty agreed to the rules of the modification and didn’t want to go to court in person. As a result, Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald has now told Petty that he must stay at home for up to 120 days.
After Petty’s past legal problems, this new development comes as no surprise. He was given a year of home confinement, three years of probation, and a $55,000 fine in July 2022 for not registering as a sex offender in California. After moving to California with Minaj after their 2019 wedding, Petty admitted that he had not registered as a sex offender. This led to the plea deal. In the past, Petty was found guilty of trying to rape Jennifer Hough in 1994 and spent more than four years in jail for it.
The person who was there in 1994 and survived the event, Hough, sued both Petty and Minaj in 2021, saying they had threatened to silence her when she said she believed Petty had raped her. Minaj was finally kicked out of the suit.
